Generally, the babies born pre-term in the Mahamodera Hospital
come from very poor families, ill-equipped to give the special care
these babies need in the first few months of their lives. Senahasa
has started a small programme of help to address some of the problems.
These include giving the babies and their families some clothes
to take home with them.
Our work at the Mahaodera neo-natal unit continues with work to
create new hygenic washing facilities for nappies etc and equipment
such as tubes used for the new born babies. Currently it is all
washed together and hung to dry in an external corridor where many
people pass through. We will provide the unit with a washing machine
and dryer and the rooms will be partitioned to provide separate
areas for different types of washing and also to provide acceptable
washrooms for staff and a restroom for doctors on duty.
